Hydration Station



The adult human body is made up of 60% water. Can you say WOW? Sixty Percent! Studies have shown that the amount of water we drink has a major effect on our energy level, brain function, and even our appearance. For our body to function to its maximum potential we should be consuming between 8 – 10 glasses of water per day. It’s crazy to think that something as simple as drinking a few glasses of water a day can have all of these effects on our body, and more. Can you believe that 2/3 of American’s don’t drink enough water? Our body NEEDS water, and while the idea of staying hydrated sounds like a simple one, for some of us its a HARD thing to do!  Today, we are going to share with you a few of our favorite tips on how we have successfully increased our water intake and how we plan on staying hydrated during this upcoming blazing HOT Florida summer!  One of our goals at Wise Chiropractic, is to instill healthy habits in our patients, and what better way than to start by drinking more water?

TIPS

Don’t wait until you are thirsty, you may already be dehydrated! Drink ALL Day.
Buy a super cool water bottle that will help keep you motivated and wanting to drink, drink, drink! (They even sell marked water bottles with either ounces or hours to help you attain your goal.)
Keep water nearby!
Drink and extra glass or water for every glass of juice, or can of soda or alcohol.  If you’re having a hard time adding that extra glass try diluting your drink of choice with ice or water until you can add in that extra glass. 😉 
 TRICKS
While drinking water may not be as flavorful as having a glass of sugary juice or fizzy can of soda, we have a few fun and simple ways to spruce it up!
Add some fruit, honey, and herbs. This is the best and most natural way to add flavor to your water. Adding fruit to your water can not only help with hydration but with a number of other health benefits. A few of our favorites are listed in the bullets below:
  • Cucumber + Lemon – Hydration
  • Orange + Lime + Lemon – Immune Defense
  • Honey + Lemon – Sore throat, Cough, and Infection
  • Cucumber + Mint – Digestion, Headaches, Hydration, and Detox
  • Strawberry + Mint – Digestion and Detox
  • Cucumber + Lemon + Lime – Bloating, Digestion, and Hydration
Add some essential oils. This is the next best way to get that fruity flavor into your water without all the extra unnecessary sugar. (Be sure you use a glass or steel water bottle. If you use a plastic water bottle you will quickly find out that is NOT the way to go as it will eat right through the bottle and spill everywhere! Trust us .. we learned the hard way.) Our favorites are listed below:
  • Lemon
  • Grapefruit
  • Orange
  • Lime
Add some flavor drops. If you choose to go this route, be sure to watch out for the preservatives, artificial colors and sweeteners.
